IKAT FROM MARICA, INDONESIA GALLERY
Marica
Marica is a sparsely populated islet off the southwest coast of Pantar with a single, eponymous, village on the northeastern point of the island and a scattering of dwellings on the eastern shore. It is separated from Pantar by a narrow straight, only half a nautical mile (about 800 m) wide. The people are Alurung (Alorese speaking), as the people of the neighbouring part of Pantar. They largely live off gathering seafood, in particular octopus, shellfish and turtle eggs, which are sold in Baranusa on Pantar. Culturally, the island appears to be an extension of the small Alurung areas on southwestern Pantar.
Literature
There is as yet no mention of Alurung ikat in the literature.
